NZ Crane Group sells Wellington operations

NZ Crane Group Ltd announces today the sale of its Wellington branch to Titan Cranes Ltd in a move set to form a closer relationship between the two companies.

The sale of the Porirua-based operation forms part of NZ Crane’s wider strategy to drive focus into large scale national commercial building, infrastructure and civil projects from its head office in Auckland.

NZ Crane Group Managing Director Deane Manley says the move will bring significant added value to both businesses.

“While NZ Crane and Titan have always enjoyed a healthy competition, the two companies are also well aligned in terms of their work practices, professionalism and investment in the industry. Wellington is the only geographically competitive area shared by our two businesses, so today’s sale allows us to work closer with both customer bases across all parts of the country,” says Manley.

The sale will see the closing of NZ Crane’s Wellington branch, with the majority of its cranes rolled into the Titan fleet, bolstering its already strong local offering in the Wellington market. Several cranes will be retained by NZ Crane and absorbed into its Auckland branch to strengthen its nationwide fleet offering.

“With all operations running from head office and a more streamlined approach to our business, in many ways NZ Crane will be better equipped to deliver market leading mobile crane hire throughout the country,” says Manley.

NZ Crane is currently in communication with affected staff around vacancies with Titan in Wellington and internally at the NZ Crane Auckland office.

Titan Cranes Chief Executive Gordon Stone is optimistic about the purchase and what it will bring to the company’s service.

“The purchase of NZ Crane’s Wellington operation along with addition of six new cranes to our fleet this year enables us to supply an extremely good range of cranes to our existing and new customers not only at our Wellington operation but at our other branches in New Plymouth, Christchurch and Dunedin,” he says.

“We will be working hard in the coming months with an eye to improve our service in the area and to gain a better understanding of NZ Crane’s existing customers to ensure a seamless transition for those wishing to work with Titan.”

Stone would like to reassure Titan’s existing customers and customers of NZ Crane that Titan will now offer an expanded crane fleet in Wellington along with more staff.
